Clean Energy Expo China / Wind Power Asia reaffirms position as premier renewable energy show in China
Trade fair a launchpad for new technologies, conference explores solutions for clean energy bottlenecks
Clean Energy Expo China and the seventh Wind Power Asia successfully closed on Friday after three days of business, strengthening its position as China’s most important annual marketplace for the wind power and clean energy
industry.
The fully sold out exhibition held at a brand new venue – the China National Conventional Center (CNCC) nestled within the Beijing Olympic Park – was the meeting point for over 400 companies from 22 countries, including four national pavilions. Spanning more than 25,000sqm of exhibition space, more than 16,000 trade visitors sourced for some of the latest products and
technology in clean and wind energy industry.

Strong support from key government agencies and trade bodies
Gracing the opening of Clean Energy Expo China/Wind Power Asia 2010 were key officials from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Foreign Affairs Office; as well as representatives from several foreign ministries, embassies and associations. The China Electricity Council, one of the event organizers and a consolidated organization of all China’s power enterprises and institutions, attracted key manufacturers and top buyers to the trade show.

The council is indispensible in driving the development of clean and renewable energy in China, and its active involvement in the event serves to consolidate the current scattered event landscape in China by offering a rare opportunity to meet all the decision makers at one place.

Emerging manufacturers and established industry players featured

Clean Energy Expo China/Wind Power Asia has once again proven to be the place to do business for the industry in China. Key domestic players turned out in full force including State Grid, United Power, Longyuan Power, DHI•DCW Group, CNR Wind Turbine, HAIFEI Wind Power Equipment, CPLEC/Liaohe Petroleum Equipment, ZWZ/Wafangdian Bearing Group, CSIC Motor, Luke, Minyang Blade, BYD, and Guodian Ningxia Solar.
They were joined by an equally impressive number of international brands such as ABB, Schaeffler Group, SSB/Emerson, Eton Moeller, Mobil, Beckhoff, Harting, 3M, Stromag, BASF, Moog, Converteam, and ELCO, among others all of which succeeded in extending their business in China.
Joyce Fan, marketing manger, The Switch China expressed, “Although we have already been exhibiting at the event for three years running, we were positively surprised by the new highlights this year. It is obvious that Clean Energy Expo China/Wind Power Asia has won in importance, which was also emphasized by the visit of the Finnish ambassador to China at our booth.”
Mr. Gong, representative of China’s leading bearing manufacturer ZWZ/Wafangdian Bearing Group, commented on his company’s participation. “This event has brought us great opportunities and connected us with many new clients. We exhibited our bearing solutions for 5MW wind turbines, and obtained many new business opportunities. We are very satisfied with this year’s Clean Energy Expo China/Wind Power Asia, including the scale and results.”

Yu Jie from Luke Wind Power Equipment was satisfied with the high quality of the exhibition and remarked, “We’ve gained much from our first participation at this show. The quality and quantity of the trade visitors here were very good, both from the technical and decision-making level. In addition, many foreign investors have approached us for future cooperation. Clean Energy Expo China/Wind Power Asia has proven to be a great communication platform.” The concept of incorporating all renewable energies under the Clean Energy Expo China umbrella brand has been welcomed by participants, and the trade show is now established as the annual gathering for the renewable energy community in China, creating powerful connections, cross sector and cross border.
Clean Energy Expo China/Wind Power Asia is unique in China to showcase the entire clean energy portfolio, while each sector maintains a separate, dedicated and focused platform. At the same time, the exhibition covers the entire value chain ranging from components to utility providers.

Presence of major national pavilions
One of the main focal points of Clean Energy Expo China/Wind Power Asia 2010 was the strong representation of country pavilions from key wind energy nations which brought with them cutting-edge technology and expertise. Making its debut appearance this year was the Dutch pavilion spearheaded by the Dutch Association of Enterprises in Technological Industries (FME-CWM), with the support of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. The group of eight companies presented products and services like electricity generation and
transmission equipment, wind turbine components, composite materials, blade design, construction and project consultation. “For the first time the Dutch industry was represented with a country pavilion at Clean Energy Expo China/Wind Power Asia. A good visitor profile and useful meetings with Chinese counterparts made the participation a success for the participating companies”, complimented Ruben Dubelaar, business development manager - energy at FME-CWM.
2010 also marked the fifth time since the Danish Wind Energy Group first exhibited at Clean Energy Expo China/Wind Power Asia. Ten Danish companies were present to showcase products relating to project transportation, wind turbine protection, hydraulic systems and control systems. Rikke Berg, business sector manager at the Danish Wind Energy Group, spoke highly of the exhibition, “This has been the fifth year that we organize a Danish pavilion at Clean Energy Expo China/Wind Power Asia, taking up almost double the space from last year. For us, the event has become an essential annual meeting place to gain access and do business with the local Chinese manufacturers, and our members have been very pleased with the results. We will be back next year!” Not to be forgotten is European powerhouse, Germany, which featured high quality and advanced “Made in Germany” wind power components and products including cable equipment, hydraulic systems, technology development, testing, maintenance and electrical products under the roof of the German pavilion initiated by the German Chamber of Commerce in China.

Exciting product launches and announcements

Top manufacturers have chosen Clean Energy Expo China/Wind Power Asia as their launchpad for a series of new products.
Dow Formulated Systems, part of The Dow Chemical Company, unveiled its COMPAXX™ foam used in the manufacturing of wind turbine blades and the AIRSTONE™ Latent Mold Building Systems to enhance mold production efficiency.
ABB rolled out its synchronous wind turbine generators for the first time in China, and French company Axson Technologies celebrated the worldwide premiere of the Epowind® series of extrudable pastes.
Electronic components, modules and systems manufacturer, TDK-EPC focused on its capacitors, varistors and EMC filters at the show while BASF from Germany demonstrated the benefits of its epoxy systems and coatings, which are designed to help Asian blade manufacturers produce more efficient and durable wind turbine rotor blades.

Power-packed conference
One of the main highlights for industry newcomers as well as veterans was the high level professional clean energy and wind power conference held concurrently with the exhibition, which attracted over 800 delegates and 118 speakers.
Focus sessions included special forums on energy efficiency and financing, discussions about the new layout of the carbon market after COP15, as well as a two-day workshop on grid integration supported by the German Federal Environment Ministry (BMU), the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI).
Complementing the conference program were the Clean Energy Technology Forum, as well as ten exhibitor-led technology exchange meetings.

Booming industry

Companies are benefitting from the current boom of clean energy in China, which is fueled by the need for investment while climate change and energy supply have become issues of key concern in China’s rapidly developing economy.
In 2009, China was second in installed renewable energy capacity (52.5 GW), just behind the U.S. (53.4 GW). China for the first time took the top spot in total clean energy investment with US$34.6 billion, with a 148% growth rate over the last five years.
Organized by the China Electricity Council, Koelnmesse and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Beijing Sub-council, Clean Energy Expo China/Wind Power Asia 2011 Exhibition and Conference will welcome the trade once again from June 22 to 24 at the CNCC in Beijing, China.
